Let's Get Reading
Parent reading volunteers
Parents Readers is our campaign to have as many parents signed up to help support the reading of all pupils within the school. Daily reading makes a difference but we are aware that some children do not read aloud to an adult every day.
Please join the movement and sign up below as a parent reader. We will provide training and can start as soon as we are able to do so within guidelines.
Parent guidance on reading at home
Please see the guidance below for listening to children read from 'school readers':
Key stage 1 guidance
Key Stage 2 guidance
Phonics support for parents
For parents who have children in EYFS (reception) and Years 1 and 2, please visit our phonics page with useful guidance on the initial sounds and the phonics screening check at https://whc.netacademies.net/Phonics/
We use the Read Write Inc (RWI - Ruth Miskin) phonics scheme.
In-school workshops will commence when we can have visitors within the school.
Online Mystery Readers
If you would like to read a story to the children online, please contact the class teacher who can arrange a slot near to the end of the day for the children to listen to you read a story. Having guest readers is not only exciting for the children but also adds a different dynamic to their learning as each reader brings their own, individual approach to books.
Family Reading Challenges and Events
Reading challenges can be great fun at home, exploring books and talking about what we have read. Please see below for a challenge in which children are aiming to read 12 books from 12 different genres. Alternatively challenge them to read one from each genre and pick their favourite. With the Reading Bingo, who can be the first one in the household to get BINGO! Have fun!
